Hello Everyone,

It is still FREE to join the Sussex Association, I have also put up two more Web Banners to chose from to help promote the club.

Enjoy your birds,

Steve

I have a question about sussex genetics. I have a beautiful buff roo and 3 nice quality buff hens. Until recently, they were they only eggs I was planned to hatch. All others were to be eating eggs.

This spring I got a pair of light sussex pullets. One pullet was always bigger than the other, but in the last couple of weeks, one of the pullets has grown tremendously and the comb, wattles, and hackle feathers are looking quite roo-ish. The rump/tail is still fairly pullet looking. These birds are almost 6 months old. If I indeed have a pair of light sussex, then I have more breeding options.

So here are my questions:

Can I breed a roo and a hen that might be siblings?

Would there be any benefit to breeding the buff roo to the light hens or the light roo to the buff hens?

If I did and then bred them back would I get any percent of offspring as pure buff or pure light?

Thanks,

Liz

I have noticed that my little Speckled Sussex head appears to getting more white. She is only about 1 year and 3 months old and has not molted yet. Is this common?
Just wondering...

Hello All!

I am curious if anyone has any nicely marked - good quality speckled hens available ( not looking ncessarily for show quality). I live about 25 minutes out side of Columbus Ohio and will be at the Ohio Nationals in November. I then would like to add a rooster and maybe another hen in the spring . My Delaware girls have about an acre and half securely fenced and sleep and roost in a large 20x20 metal barn- well ventilated- so they would be well pampered. I love the sussex and want to get a good start in them.
Point me in the right direction and i would be really grateful!
Thanks
