The Sussex thread!

Get with Leela Olson at Kindred Hill Farm in NH, USA and buy some from her. They are lovely! there are a bunch of breeders at the Breeder's Directory at the Sussex Club website.

I spent months trying to find someone with speckled Sussex chicks or hatching eggs but everyone was out of stock. I got a few brown leghorns and Cornish cross intead. Come spring I'm going to try to locate Sussex again. Ideally I want 5 hens and a rooster.

now is a good time to locate a breeder. they will be downsizing their flocks for overwintering. there will be some real nice started birds for sale. you'll pay a bit more but not as much as if you raised them from chicks, I think. plus you will redeem the time you lost by not finding any this Spring. And be ready to breed them next Spring with the rest of us.
Best,
Karen and the Light Sussex in western PA, USA

Most of those links were pretty far away or were sold out. I found one additional seller who wants $15 a hen with no option to buy a rooster. He is about 2 hours away. The next closest is 2.5 hours drive and only has sussex available before june.
I may hold out for the spring date of carolina chickstock.

ask for pics of the birds for sale and post them here. Lets have a look at them and see if you have found a diamond in the rough.

Is @Johnn still active here? He had the most amazing photos of his hens with nature's beauty as the background.

In fact, we enjoyed his speckled sussex pics so much, that we ended up getting one. We've posted several 'Chizzy' pics here. She's our son's hen.

I got a rescue chick they said it was rir but I knew that was wrong others around here said speckled Sussex first pic was when I first got her, second pic is from this week name is Picasso

Picasso sure looks like a Spec Sussex to me.

Here was our hen spring 2017 (when she was a chick).

DS took her on all sorts of adventures, and today she's a rather fearless hen.
