My SS are Cackle Hatchery and about the quality you would expect.

I would LOVE to get some better quality SS, truly BIG birds that might lay fewer eggs but live up to the reputation as a table bird and show bird.

We just don't seem to have any around here. So the eldest boy and I are working with what we have.

On the entertaining side, one SS hen has gone broody in the outside cat's litter box. It really annoyed the cat.
 
It will take 9-10 months or so to get them to the size for butcher, but are a dual purpose breed.

How big is are they at that age? Thats an awfully long time to sit on excess birds to be table worthy.​
 
I have an incubator, I'd take eggs! But I would like to know my chances are good to get something better than I already have. We incubate the best combinations we have, but we are starting from a poor place. I understand the risks of incubating shipped eggs, and I understand even good pairings will thrown the off chick. As you say, the really good birds are hard to find in the US.
