I am working very hard to get some. . . . I 've sent at least 20 inquires out during the last 30 days. I am trying to locate some good show quality speckled sussex.

If you are interested in non-show quality speckled sussex, just wait a couple of months and you can get you local feed store to order some in for you.

Watch the craigslist ads. In my neck of the woods, several BYC members will post on the local craiglist when they have hatched eggs and have extras to sell.

Good Luck!

Yes, I'm having fun trying to find ANY in my area.

I would rather wait, and find a breeder, who ships chicks or eggs. I would rather pay for quality birds...than to have hatchery quality birds. If I just wanted them for eggs...then I would get whatever I could find...but I would like to breed them too...so I want really nice ones.

I'm keeping an eye, on CL every day.

I don't have any photos of ours, and she is molting right now so not terribly pretty! But the speckled Sussex is definitely one of our favorite chickens...she is so sweet and friendly...she is always first to come running and (when she isn't molting) she is just gorgeous. She started laying early too-at just 4 1/2 months, but I don't know if that's normal or not. I just ordered another batch of chicks so we will be getting her a speckled Sussex pal.

I am trying to decide if I want to keep my Light Sussex or not. Any input as to why you love yours would be helpful.

I think they are beautiful and big but so far the egg size is only a medium large and that is in hens not pullets. True they are laying all winter in a decent amount, but I am just not sure anymore.

They carry the Coronation gene and I have about 5 of those. At first I didn't like them but the grown hen is now very nicely filled out and pretty.

I want to focus on 3 maybe 4 breeds and I can't do without my English Orpingtons, Black Copper Marans and Silver Laced Wyandottes.

Do they stay or go? And why? Honest, this is not a sales pitch- I need some outside input.

I know what you are goimgthrough. I mostly likethe sussix because of the personality. yes there eggs are not t he biggest but they still are good and lay they lay pretty good. I go for the personality above anything else. I love the way they play I have never had any chickens that have done that.

Thank you, and yes they do have good personalities but... so do my other ones. The SLW are even better. They are gorgeous birds and really easy to care for. Hmmm.

I have a few speckled sussex hens and they are gorgeous. Not hatchery, but no roo. They are really friendly! I had a buff sussex but found her too ordinary and sold her. Gosh this shouldn't be this difficult to decide.
