I have been chatting with Walt over the last few days. He won't have anything available until this summer - - - - at the earliest.

So, if anyone else knows of a breeder with good / show quality speckled sussex - - - pm me or post the info PLEASE.
I am looking for someone on the EAST coast of the US. . . . . . .

Thanks.

Disregard the coronation sussex in the front, these are two buff sussex from Greenfire-not a cross, any ideas how the coloring can be so different. Originally we were waiting to see if one was different coloring because of sex...but I think they are both pullets now almost 3 months old

All three look like pullets to me. But as to your question, do you know if Paul ever crossed the buffs with lights to expand the gene pool? I'm guessing he did and you have a throwback.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply this pullet was a direct result of crossing buffs and lights. I was wondering if buffs and lights were crossed a few generations ago to increase the gene pool, and this chick was the result of some hidden genes popping up unexpectedly.

Agree, hidden genes can stay hidden for a long time depending on many factors. If there was an extension of the gene pool, it could have been +/- 1yr, 5yrs, 10yrs, or even longer.

But females cant be split for both Silver and Gold genes like males can, they are either one or the other ( or they are supposed to be at least) so I'm not sure how that gold coloring is coming through as the bird does appear to be a female. But can you get a close up picture of the Buff ones head, Sussex roos can be tricky and theres something about the buff one thats making me suspicious.

True, girls can only be either silver or gold. I was just thinking the color leaking through was buff (a difficult color anyway), not just gold. Of course I'm dead tired now and can't think clearly.
