The Sussex thread!

My Coronation girls have been laying for a month now. I put some of their first eggs in the incubator. i candled today and most of them are fertile!

I was getting impatient for them to lay and I bought chicks from the breeder of my rooster. I found the pullets first eggs the day after!

I am raising some chicks, various breeds, for a friend and the one Speckled Sussex is the boss of the whole group. I wand a Speckled of my own to have in my layer flock.

I'll add my own $0.02 to the development of patterns in growing chicks - I raise Mille Fleur Cochins and they take forever to come to a settled pattern. In fact they change a lot in their first molt. Mille Fleur and Mottled Cochin breeders rarely sell eggs or chicks. Patterned bird raising is a test in patience.

Dorothy is so lovable!

Dorothy IS adorable. I have some Speckled chicks now. I hope one of them grows to be sweet like her.

If I may, who supplied the eggs?
 Best,
 Karen

Hey Karen!

Talked to Sandra and she didn't have any eggs at the moment because she was done hatching for the year, but she pointed us to another breeder, Emily Robertson. She is actually quite close to us so I can just pick the eggs up myself. It actually worked out very well. Thank you for getting me set up! :)
