The Sussex thread!

I have one little speckled sussex pullet, Pox. She is very skittish though do to some recent attacks by a raccoon. First, it left a gash on Pox. Then, it tore down a corner of the run and managed to get into the 'baby coop'. Somehow, my EE pullet, Nugget, and Pox escaped. Sadly, my silkie chick Dumpling didn't. I moved Nugget and Pox into the adult coop with my Polish hen and silkie roo. I'm in a suburban location, so we have a limit on the number of chickens we can have (Grr). They seem to be doing fine though, but I won't be using the 'baby coop' ever again. We'll have to build a new, safer one. I think I might just build a new coop in general, and use the old one for newcomers until they get used to eachother.

I am tempted to get some Sussex.

So I have a question, is there a difference in American Sussex and Johnn's Sussex, like American BOs and English BO's ?
I need to go read all of this, but work beckons.

...like it always does.

I think with any breed you will have differences between comercial hatchery stock, Breeder stock, and show stock. I have 1 SS pullet from hatchery stock and one from a Breeder that got his original birds from show stock. They are not the same age or mature yet so it is hard to tell but my Breeder stock girl seem more substantial and a bit more friendly.
