Looks like a pullet to me...
Your egg looks rather dark for a SS, but it also looks wet, so that could be all that is. Here are some just laid eggs from a couple of my SS hens (not wet):
Yes I rinsed it off for its close up! It's just a light brown egg with speckles. Since my other 2 girls don't lay speckled eggs and 1 lays blue eggs, I don't know who else could have produced it! Buff Orpington and barred Rock have never laid a speckled eggs before. Maybe it's theirs.
Mine always have them in Summer! I give them a bit of straw to make it a bit dryer!Need to build one of those hidden nests for my girls!![]()
