The Sussex thread!

Could anyone help sex my 7 week old Coronation Sussex. It was the only CS egg that hatched, so I have nothing to compare. I've been thinking male because of the waddles & comb color, but shouldn't it be larger by now? Pics taken on a very hot day. Last pic under fluorescent lighting.

We lost our little Agatha yesterday. She was a sweet little bird, very independent and a courageous hunter. She will be missed.

Does you chick have hackle feathers yet? If so, you can check them. the cockerels will have pointed ends to their hackle fathers.
The pullets will have rounded ends to their hackle feathers.
Best Regards,
Karen

Advise please ~ Ordered SS chicks from the feed store. 3 pullets, 1 roo. The three girls look to be ss, typical coloring as I've been able to find on internet chick pics! But the male is Black and White. Predominately white with black spots, kind of looks " harlequin". I will try to get a pic tomorrow and post. I questioned it at the time I picked them up but the sales gal just kinda shrugged, and said she didn't know why he looked so different. I will take pics and post asap... has anyone else had this problem? Also would it be normal for their to be that much variation in the chick's coloring. At first I thought I might have gotten a coronation, or a light sussex but I don't think so....

This looks a lot like my little 3 mo old pullet. Beautiful. I only had one also. sigh

Beautiful pic of Dorothy. I like how you got at ground level. Nice Job

Here's my Hope again (now 9 weeks). I'm leaning toward roo but only b/c of the comb color. Would a CS pullet have a reddish comb at 9 weeks?
