It was frostbite. My coop didn't have enough ventilation to allow the moisture to escape. We had a couple of hard freezes; after that the comb became discolored, shriveled up, and the hens picked them off. It was a very long and distressing process, for me.





This is when I got him and his three hens back in October. I think he was about 8 months old. He's really filled out a lot, especially in the last 6 months or so. I picked up the quad from a sale ad for $30. Best decision of my entire life.
He still is a magnificent bird.
My Blue Marans roo and my little Partridge Cochin roo have almost no points on their combs. The last couple of Winters have been tough for us in Oklahoma. :(
