The Sussex thread!

Looks like a pullet to me. Any stubs on the backs of the legs where spurs would form later? How about the neck hackle feathers? In a male they are pointed at the end. In a female they are rounded at the end.
Best,
Karen

One of my SS hens named Lucy laid her first egg today!!!! :D It's a pale tan color though, I thought it might be darker? And how big are pullet eggs usually? This was pretty good size, similar to a large size from the grocery.

Oh and another question-on the "Breeds" page the picture under Speckled Sussex doesn't seem to be a Speckled I don't think? Anyone notice that?

yes your SS will lay a cream brown egg. This is normal for them. Also the egg is large but not to big for bird to lay.

Here are two of the girls he will be penned with.

I have one girl with SO much white! You can see her in the left of this pic, with one of "sisters" beside her. This breed is really pretty with personalities to match <3

Some of my Platinum and Silver Sussex:

As you can see, some of the Silvers are almost black, according to the standard the silver continues down their crop. The above image is a decent rooster but his shape could be improved.

Obligatory First Egg Pic! It's so iddy biddy! LOL. But I'm quite happy. My girl Mabel is modeling herself after her hero Dorothy. Now if only my landscape would like like where Dorothy lives.... :D
