I agree with your statement - have been to shows and yet to have seen a large fowl speckled.

I spent last night and this morning searching the web and just can not people with a reputation for show quality speckled sussex with the exception of Gary Overton (Ohio) and Tony A ( Washington).

These are super friendly birds that are truly dual purpose with the large butterball breasts. I am truly surprised by the lack of breeders who are trying to or have obtain show quality birds. . . .

There was a photo of a LF SS in a recent issue of Poultry Press (October?) that did well at a show... Will have to find it and let you know who it belonged to - unless anyone else has a copy.

I agree - they are extremely friendly!!!!!!

for any of you that have coronations or light sussex I've got a question.

somehow my coronations are getting dirty...run is dry etc. They get to free range but not daily and they still are dirty.

I've washed the dirty areas with water but they never get white-white. Is there another trick...I know I know they are chickens, but I'm in awe at how gorgeous my coronations are and want to keep them clean...silly me...

The white feathers will yellow in the full sun. If its just dirt maybe give them a dustbath area with more sand and DE in it that they will shake off. No problem with too much sun or dirt here in MN. Just clouds and snow!
