I had a coronation that I thought was hen for a long time, and at about 4 months, I figured out it was rooster. I think some may just be slow to mature.
I called local feed store that only I could get SS from and he told me a bad news... He said can't get SS this year
He is buying chicks from Mexico but the hatchery is having trouble hatching SS this year.
I called Cackle hatchery and they have SS. I have to order from them this year.
But 15chicks... I have to sell some of them...

Thats the problem I had, finding them was hard everywhere was saying that they were sold out , but Rural king special ordered them from Cackle Hatchery for me! I was so excited, they will be 7 weeks old soon, all are healthy and happy and so sweet and "smart" for chickens! My new girls names are, Sweetpea (currently in my lap as usual) Emerald (sister named) Lucy, hallie, and Percy girl! They are showing alot of what patterns there going to have, mostly white, or mostly red, Uno and her sister Dottie were completely opposites, Uno has alot of white where Dottie was most Mohogony colored with little white spots. makes it easy to tell them apart.
For the people that have different color varieties of Sussex, what is the personality differnces with them if there is any, Ive only ever had Speckled variety which I love love love but would like to see pictures and here about there personalities, thinking I might need some other varieties, I think Eventually I will have only Sussex, seems like every girl I lose gets replaced with speckled sussex. LOL (Dont get me wrong I love all my chickens) but there is just something extra special about a Sussex!
I called Meyer and they have SS. They are cheaper than Cackle for 15chicks + shipping. They are closer to me, too.
It's in OH. Cackle is in MO.
BUT they are not available till June 27....
Cackle said about 10days to ship.
Hummmmm.....
Have you guys ever used Cackle or Meyer??
Which one did you like??

I just got my chicks today from MPC which is Meyer, they had a long trip OH to OR. I just ordered 6 SS sexed pullets. 4 are in great shape 2 are a little slower to recover, still a little equilibrem (sp) problems but it has been only 8 hrs. I think they will all be just fine, what I like is it looks like there are several diffrent marking patterns so maybe diffrent blood lines? All my other chicks I have hatched from eggs so that is all I can tell you.
Can you see any true photos from Cackle?
