Oh, I'm so mad right now! My dog just killed one of my Light Sussex juveniles! I hatched out 4 Sussex chicks from my flock, they were the ONLY ones out of 40++ eggs that hatched. My rooster isn't a very busy guy, and therefore the eggs are never fertile!

Those chicks were ALMOST 4 m/o. I'm so mad right now I could scream my head off!! Oh, why do I have to live in the hottet place with no rain, I don't know how many stink'in chickens I've lost to the heat and that dern dog!!! I coulnd't get rid of her because I've had her for such a long time and she is my baby. That darn dog has cost me HUNDREDS of dollars. I don't know how many of my SQ juvenile chicks she killed when I had them up in the yard. I don't even want to tell you how much I paid for some of those chickens she killed. Sorry for the rant, but I have to let this out. Am I ever going to be able to breed chickens without EVERYTHING going wrong?

I am so excited to start raising these gorgeous birds!! I have 10 coronation eggs in my bator right now. I have more coronation & light sussex eggs coming next week. I hope they hatch out ok!!

Not trying to be negative but is there a reason that alot of the auctions I see for Light Sussex and Coronation Sussex never sell for much. I have some of both and don't understand what happened to their value.

Were they just the "hot chicken" for awhile and people have moved on?

I turned them all loose this morning except for the coronation and they are molting. So no. I am thinking of either selling or processing them all. They are a lovely bird but the egg size is only a medium and people want large eggs here they don't give a hoot if the bird is show or beautiful--just large brown eggs!

If you decide to sell them let me know. Where in Idaho do you live?

In Eagle and I gathered them all back in today so the fox and other predators didn't have them for a snack tonight.

I'm going to try to post a few pics of our flock of Coronation & Light Sussex. We have 3 Light(split) pullets, 3 Light(split), cockerals, 8 Coronation pullets, & 4 Coronation cockerals. These were all hatched the end of Feb. Granddaughter took two pair to Butler Co(OH) fair and won reserve Champion over all fowl with a Light pullet. Grandson took two pair to Preble Co(OH) fair and won champion English, and in the top 5 over all fowl for 4H, he got reserve over all in open class.

The broken barrel in this first picture has a pullet who insisted on setting. We let her have a dozen eggs on the 22nd, she kicked one egg to the side and kept 11.
a few in the pen:

Oh, does anyone else notice a slight barring in the Coronation feathers? I'm wondering if that is common, or if that might lead to a Cuckoo marked chicken?
