The Sussex thread!

i need y'alls expert opinion on my new trio... I'm gonna use them for breeding one way or the other just want to know what i need to cull for in the offspring... the lady i got him from does not know the origin of these birds... a friends husband gave them to her after the wife passed away... she knows the lady had them for a few years and she hatched these birds last fall so if its hatchery its a few years removed...

lay it on me i can handle it the good bad and the ugly lol ...

just have pics of 2 of the trio... the other hen has a little more white on her...

These look very nice from what I see. Is there any way you can get a weight on them. The one main thing I see is the amount of white on the pullets. They just keep getting lighter with age. The cockerel looks to have a nice amount of white. Two important things to watch is size and amount of white.

Another thing to watch is solid white feathers in the wings and tails. I don't see any on your birds, which is a good thing. They also have white tips on the tail feathers. Two thumbs up there.

thanks for all the help... what is the color called??? i have heard the mahogany color tossed around with these but i want to put it into the chicken calculator so i need to know the gene's involved...

Looks like Speckled Sussex to me!
