low methionine in the feed and or quality of protein can cause some breeds to be more aggressive. Even if you are fermenting the feed, get them some game bird crumbles.

Move to a brooder plate. I like the plates that Premier1 sells.

i have them on hubbard poultry developer....they are crumbles...
i do have game bird starter however i thought you werent supposed to feed a high protein like 28 percent to chickens....

Check the methionine level in the feed to see what it is and use the one that is highest.

Adult chickens get lower protein. Chicks get higher.

so quick question...i have them under a red light...i just TRIED to change to regular light and that was a no go....they started to fight as soon as i changed it...it was like flipping a switch....any thoughts...are these birds that aggressive....cause as soon as i switched it back they just stopped...just like i switch the light.....just curious as i have never raised these birds and i def have never seen this behavior in a bird...right now i have over 200 birds...and none of them responded like that...r they going to be ok when i eventually change them to different light...or when i put them outside...kinda nervous now

I have mine (same age from Bryce) in a large chicken tractor covered with a tarp at night and using the white light. Spring nights are mild out here in california. No issue with the light and fighting, they are even with a bunch of chicks younger and no one is picking on anyone else.

I gave them cottage cheese (small curd), some egg yolks and whey for a few dsys after they arrived from their long journey. Perhaps that is the protein boost you are needing OR you need a larger brooding situation, I have noticed that they are particularly active -wanting to jump, spread their wings, have dust baths etc. :)

Good luck!

ive broodered a couple hundred chickens in the last six months alone...and i have never had a group of chickens do this...the filler chickens (packing peanuts) didnt do this... i would normally just give the feed store chicken feed they make their to my normal chickens...but the svarts get the more expensive stuff....i will do a 50/50 mix with the game bird feed....and well see what happens...i dont think its to do with the brooder space as there is roughly 1 ft 2 for each bird... i have 38 chicks, roughly the same size, in the same size area and they dont fight....same light and everything...today the 38 are getting split to two brooders. im going to try and switch the lighting yet again here today to see if they do it again...im stumped on this one for sure

There are some big differences in breeds. The Spanish breeds can be very aggressive. Some breeds will not stand for multiple roosters while others will. I have to be very careful with the Basque Hens, Penedesencas and etc. They will kill new hens when you add them to the flock so I have to be very careful.

Some like the Quecha from South America will let multiple roosters work together.

I just feed mine regular Nutrena starter/grower.
It's nothing that special but I've had really good luck with it
thanks...bryce did you have these under a red light or white...or any....
i just tried to add a white light to it and as soon as i plugged it in...they were all laying down resting....plugged in the light...and they started to fight...so i unplugged it and then they stopped right away....this is so weird....building their pen today as we speak....boy this is going to be an experience with these...thats for sure....who knows...maybe they mad because they are in the michigan cold....lol....not like that lovely georgia or cally climate.....hahaha...i know i would be mad...if i got moved to a cold place...
