The Svart Hona (Swedish Black Hen) Thread!

Pics
I love when people say their birds are greenfire or ewe crazy - isn't just about ever svart hona in America from one of those 2 sources at some point, even if not directly bought from them? How many other importers where there? Those are the only ones I'm aware of.

I'll keep plugging away at the hatching and heavy culling. I feel I almost need to get another incubator just for svart hona so I can constantly hatch those and not interrupt hatching other breeds

agreed those are the only two importers....
and agree on the additional incubator....my sportsman gqf is full and so is another incubator so I am ordering another incubator sportsman this week

Have you guys had any luck incubating with broody Svart Honas? Although I have an incubator, I was hoping the hens will help out as well... but maybe I need to think again?

Yep, I had one go broody in early February and still successfully hatch three chicks. I was impressed.

Those look like girls but hard to tell from the angle, the males crest outpaces the girls pretty early. We are at 7 weeks and have been able to tell the boys from the girls for about 2-3 weeks. If you had one of each you would know.

Hatching eggs needed. Ideally in Arizona so we can pick up locally. Trying to add some diversity to our group. Svart Honas obviously though also looking for Creme Legbar and French Black Copper Marans.

My husband will be happy. These are the only chickens he has ever wanted. They both are pretty calm.
