The taste of eggs improves when I feed__________(fill in the blank)!

All as above as well as Black Oil Sunflower Seeds (aka BOSS) and flax seed. Since my gals get it all and have since I got them, not sure it actually affects their eggs taste. However, I would stay away from onion and/or garlic unless you really, really, really like that taste 'cuz it will transfer to the eggs!

Don't feed them teenagers or your eggs will be rotten!

My chickens love to free roam and I try to let them do so as much as I can. A few days ago one cought a small snake and the others chased her around the yard trying to take it away from her or to at least get a bite of it. She had quite the chase but she finally hide behind a bush and while my husband and I watched she finally got it down. Later that they found another one, yahh two less snakes in my yard. The snakes were about seven or eight inches long. I don't think it made the eggs taste a bit better.

My laying chickens diet is 17% laying pellets provided 24/7, free range from 9 AM till 4 PM. Treats from the garden. Then a few handfuls of BOSS to get them back in the coop & fresh water 24/7.

I KNEW IT!! My girls are not able to free range in grass and garden!!! I had one man that made it very clear 'he knew what fresh eggs should taste like'---and he has not bought from me a second time.....

In fact, I have 2 or 3 only one time buyers.

Now, I know my eggs are tastier than the store--firm, yellow yolks. But, they may be lacking that 'certain something'--that really sets them apart. I knowing their food is fresh and I feed table scraps, pasta, oatmeal, etc; but I knew my eggs were missing that extra punch!

I have my girls in an enclosed run. I bring them every bug I can; they found a couple of young tarantulas a couple of times this summer--EEWWWWW! I brought them bermuda weeds that I pulled. But not enough I believe.

I have hawks, coyotes and raccoons, bobcats and Lord knows what else. And I watched my neighbor loose chicken after chicken from a coop not secure. So, I 'sewed' my run up tight.....

But---I do live pretty close to a SCHOOL............

BOSS and vegis/fruits. My girls are in a run and I bring them the greens. Dandilion leaves from the yard, Spinach or arugala leaves, dried/sliced strawberries, it all depends on what we've fixed lately. Plus leftovers. They are currently pigging out on some leftover tater tot casserole.

I wonder if the hamburger will make a difference in how the eggs taste. Well, no option but to try...

I don't know exactly what does it, but I am amazed by the thick, huge, lush, BRIGHT orange yolks on my eggs. I do get other free-range eggs, even locally, but their yolks are not like ours. I have a REALLY (diversely!) weedy yard. I wonder if that's it, seriously!!

I free range during the growing season. In the winter when the snow cover is deep, I give them wheat grass, alfalfa and other sprouts. You could try that. It's not too hard and there are a lot of threads on the forum about it.

You could also grow some dark leafy greens next to the run and toss some in for them.
