The things we do to help our chickens in the heat!

Ok, I like the suggestion about the frozen jug so much, popping one in the freezer now. I have a broody in the coop and I'm worried about her not getting out to enjoy the sprinkler!

This is what I did yesterday...lol

Thankfully we got storms in yesterday evening that finally broken the heat and humidity's death hold - dropped quickly after that. The day before I ran a tub of cold water and dunked each bird.

omg I am green:( I didnt think you were supposed to get chickens wet?
what about 6 week old chicks would sprinkling them be ok?

Here is a little something we have learned.
My daughter likes to show her bantams at the county fair. When it is hot we put frozen bottles of 20 ounce water in their cages. One year we had a rooster freeze his wattle to it when he was lyaing by it. So, we now put the frozen bottles in old socks for them. They LOVE it!

frozen water bottles, how simple, i love it

right now we have a fan and we refill their water all the time

we also set one of our faucets to drip constantly, and they love to play in it, we can't really do the sprinkler because we are under sever drought here in TX

Evidently you haven't seen the thread with the lady who puts her chickens in the swimming pool to cool down

(from last week). Lots use misters, but my birds huddle in the furthest corner away from it when I run one.

The frozen jugs are good for contained birds...

I have noticed the birds are loving the mud and are standing in puddles now the sprinkler is off! They did stay out of the actual sprinkler, but I went in the coops and the temp inside did drop a lot from the water going on them, so that was worth it for sure.
