The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Nine broodies, imagine! Right now it's six broodies (want to be broodies included) and three eggs! This heat is really taking a toll on the egg production
Yeah, the heat has tapered my girls off too.

So the potentially interesting thing about setting eggs this last weekend, only the layers who laid during this heat are getting their chicks hatched. Does this mean anything? Or just complete chance?

I wouldn't think it means much for birds under the age of one. For those that are older, at least some heat tolerance should be at play. What temperatures do you get over there?

We were in the mid to upper 90s (degF) and humid, it's now mid to upper 80s and some lower 90s. I don't know the ages of the chickens I got eggs from other than mine. Mine are just a year old. But maybe some older ones from the breeders?

Maybe heat tolerance, or maybe they're first eggs laid in 3 months 🤣 I'll never know :lau

Thank you so much, that means a lot. Sometimes I worry if my presence on this site is more annoying than anything else. I'm glad to read that's not the case, or at least isn't always the case:lol:
I’m later than the others replying to your comment, but I must address it.

Day 7 today.

Thought that today's update would be a very unsuspenseful one, but then I found all THREE serama hens in the nest.

I was right on Scary Spice thinking of going broody, but I didn't imagine it would take her such a short amount of time to commit.

It has become a bigger problem than what I can handle in the same pen, so I took the two girls and Lady Gaga and put them in with the mix breed bantams at roosting time. They should do fine there, and Foureira has all the pen to herself and her future chicks

They just have a schedule of their own
