The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

We've entered Day 7 everybody :wee !

In less than 24 hours we'll be doing the official first candling!

Today, the comb begins to develop.

I did a little bit of a cheeky candling, and I'm left a bit sad. I saw what I'm 99.9% sure were blood rings on at least three serama eggs, so please send positive vibes, prayers, or anything positive their way, so that we don't lose any more.

@tlcmurphy your eggie is definitely developing, little Jelly Bean is a fighter!

Aww, I’m sorry to hear about the Seramas, I’m sending Well Wishes your way!
Yay for our little Jelly Bean though 🥰

Thank you:hugs! I'm so happy Jelly Bean is growing. After seeing a tad bit of vein on the first candling, I was really rooting for that little guy (or girl)

Oh no, I'm sorry they are looking like blood rings 😭 do you have the same issue with the T-birds? (Sorry, not yet at the level to attempt the full name  ) are Serama shells thinner or more porous?

I watched a YouTube video of a lady using hydrogen peroxide to sanitize hatching eggs and she said her number of blood rings significantly decreased once she started doing that. Maybe there's a bacteria in your soil that's sneaking in?

Come on little Jelly Bean, keep fighting!

I didn't candle as many Tsouloufates. The ones that I did candle were either eggs that I had marked before setting as low chances of hatching (none of the claimed eggs were marked as such), or random ones I picked up. All the ones I marked as low chance of hatching had no development, but all the random ones I picked up were very much developing.

I actually set more Tsouloufati eggs with porous eggs, than I did serama. With the serama I tried to play it totally by the book, to achieve the best hatch rate. I'd say their shells are strong enough.

Don't know about potential bacteria seeping in. I didn't wash them, so the protective bloom should be there. I didn't even mark them with the pencil, in case it could affect them. I don't know if the high humidity was at play. Guessing by the air cell size on the Tsouloufates, that's a no too

Hmm, I'm not a blood rings expert by any means, so hopefully others have more thoughts. I'm super bummed for you Fluffy :hugs there are so many variables and things that happen out of our control. That is great the Tsouloufates are doing well (thanks for giving me the name reference 😉) but I know how much we were all hoping for a bountiful Serama hatch.

Also, we won't give up on them just yet, I've had some funky looking ones that were actually just fine 🤗 I was sure I have one silkie egg that was a quitter but thankfully I left it when I did my lockdown candling because it hatched!

Maybe they are just giving us a scare :fl

Thank you so much :hugs . I know that you peeps also wanted to see these little guys hatch. We still have a few who are developing (3, at the very least) so let's keep cheering for those, and possibly hoping I was wrong in my assessment. As long as they aren't stinkers, they can stay in the incubator until lockdown. I really hope I just didn't judge their development correctly
