I think it's very important to talk to the eggs, that's how it is in nature.

Nature and incubators?. Natural is a broody, talking to the eggs she sits on.
But I sure hope Fluffy is not sitting on the eggs!

I think TwoCrows means that the chicks are "programmed" to receive the soft clucks of the mum as a cue, stimulating them to pip, zip, and finally hatch. Talking to them and whistling at them is kind of a substitute

I can confirm that I am in fact not sitting on these eggs
