The true cost of building your own coop -

I was so proud of myself for finding a used chicken tractor for only $50.

Then I decided it needed new, stronger, wire around it, and of course, I should extend it to a 2-story model, and the inside just wasn't large enough, and the laying boxes should be hanging on the outside...

Materials...$250

Then of course they needed a run, so I bought a used huge dog pen

Dog pen...$50

Then they needed netting to go over the run

Netting $10

So much for the $50 coop, but I'm happy with it now.

We recycle everything we possibly can. My dh is a contractor and he will save scraps from jobs. We used scraps of lumber left over and some wire we already had along with a new roll of wire and I have 5 coops with just 50.00 in 'em.

My costs were about $1000.00 for my first coop, $650.00 for my second coop. Soon we will be building our third coop. We have some materials left over from a barn we just built so don't now what I'll have to get for the new coop yet.

i beleive that the cost of the coop depends on how much stuff u have laying around your property and how much stuff u have to buy mine costed around $200 probaly but we already had a barn that we put it in the back of and some of the materials. but wow is chicken wire pricey.
Thanks,
