Mulia ~ I think your coop is great and if it will make you feel any better, my neighbors think I need to see a doctor too for what I've built for chickens!! I also want to say how much I've enjoyed your posts and to see a glimpse of your country! The internet is such a great way to get to know people from around the world.

Planned small initially but built big. Figured if the chickens didn't work out, I'd have a new storage building. $1700 including the run. Was more work than planned and took longer too. But loving it and the chickens!

It was late winter last year when the idea of raising chickens "hatched". My wife has been reading every book printed about small farms and the importance of our relationship with our food source.

I say, " It won't cost much... $20 for 8 chickens. I bet I can build a nice hen house for $200.00." I remember that quote because it was repeated back to me, over and over, all during the project!

I tried! I recycled lino, roofing shingles and used oops paint from Home Depot, but seriously, I spent over $200 on screws and hardware cloth!

When I see some these beautiful coops and the reported price tag of $8.50 I have few thoughts:
1. They are lying to save their marriage. (Noble and smart!)
2. They had corporate sponsors.
3. Wow! They even found recycled nails and screws.

I do know that some of my favorites on this site are restored structures and projects that seem to be completed by the entire family. Some of those did cost $8.50 and some $2000.00 and the chickens can't tell the difference.

thank you. maybe they need adaptation first but i still believe that all chickens like to be free ranged than cooped, do they?

honestly i also want to use power tool like many american use cause that's so easy and use little energy from us than sawing that all using hand saw but the machine saw or drill itself cost more expensive than my coop. so how can i afford to buy it.

i'm amazed how do people abroad can afford such a big and "lux" coop.


yes, mine too, glad to have 3 meters wall in my backyard so neighbors can't take a peep.
