I have been receiving shipped eggs all week long. My first two packages that were shipped, the confirmation number was scanned at the beginning and end. But it wasn't the confirmation number (tracking

) that I went by. Common sense told me that if one package was sent Monday, it would be at my PO by Wednesday. I have sent and received enough packages over the last few years so I've got an idea of how long it should take for shipping. I called the PO this morning because a package was sent out on Tuesday from Mississippi so it should be here today. The one I got yesterday was from Virginia-two days to arrive! This last package I'm expecting was never, ever scanned. I called the PO. I get some guy that was very rude from the get go. He asked me 20 questions when all he needed to know was the ship-to address, like the last two employees I had spoken to previously. He puts the phone down to check if my package is in. He picks up the phone a few seconds later and tells me it's not in. I had a feeling that he really didn't look. I inform him that it's very important that I pick up from the post office and that the package not end up on the truck for a 4 hour, most likely bumpy, ride. He tells me to hold on because he's got a customer. 10 seconds later, he hangs up on me!

I was livid!!! I called back 5 minutes later because I wanted to calm myself down before getting back on the phone. I get someone else on the phone who happens to have much better phone manners than the previous jerk. I ask my usual question about my package. He places me on hold. Gets back on the phone to inform me that they haven't quite finished the sorting yet but if I could give him my name and number, he would gladly call me if it's in.

I realize that there is a slim chance that the package could possibly take an extra day to get to me. The PO sometimes has a very skewed way of shipping. I have heard enough times of packages actually going in the opposite direction 500 miles before heading back into the right direction.

It's 10:48 here at the moment and the second employee I spoke to never called me back. I guess I'll find out at 2pm when I check our community mailbox whether or not he kept an eye out for my package. Or if it never arrived in the first place.

Call the supervisor of that PO. Let them know what is going on. Speak to your carrier (I recommend everyone get to know their carrier - very helpful in numerous ways)

My PO is excellent - I am sure they get tired of me calling - but they all set my packages on the Supervisors desk or at my carriers "cage". My carrier also knows me, knows I get eggs and will call me if a box is in early (even if I have not let her know that eggs are coming).

Hoping your eggs are safe.

We've got a great carrier and counter staff here. The FedEx guy who hauls butt down our road and throws boxes around is a whole other story, though.

I hope they get to you safe and sound.

My PO is great and always exteremly helpful! Its my carrier who is the jerk!!! He had the gall to try and blame me for the broken eggs that spilled in his vehicle!!!! WHAT?????? I always try to call and they will hold the eggs or chicks for me to come get. I have been allowed to come up on sunday and pick up my shipments! It was so funny whe I got my last chicks... The lady who brought me the box at the counter was walking as if she was carrying explosives. LOL I almost LOL!!! She informed me they had been in an office since I informed them they would die if they got a chill. I expressed my grattitude for their extremely thoughful care! I will call a day or 2 before I expect the shipment and ask them to call me asap!!! I inform them that i get up at 0400 and would be more than happy to come get them as soon as they are scanned in. The carrier on the other hand....... Well lets just say I'm lucky to get mail if it rains! Forget about hail, sleet, or snow!!!! EVERY package of eggs he has delivered has had broken eggs!

Good luck and God Bless!

This last package I'm expecting was never, ever scanned.

Must be an epidemic. I mailed eggs to Alaska from Culberson, NC on Monday, paid the usual thing for Del Conf. Was never scanned and is still not in the system. Three days later, I'm hoping it will at least be scanned when Ronny picks it up in Alaska. If not, I will be asking for a refund, trust me.

My own P.O. is awesome. My carrier is awesome. It's wonderful when folks take pride in their jobs, isn't it? Wish they all did.

I am sorry for your frustration but you must understand that the PO is not about cust. serv. it's about money. Now I know that nothing I say will be of any comfort. Since I worked for the PO it very well could be that the first person didn't look. If there were any other alternative we would surely take it.
As for Delivery comfirmation they expect you to look it up on line. Then wonder why they are losing their jobs. Or not. The unions have management by the you know what. They can not just fire someone. It is very difficult. You have know Idea. That is unless the union santions it and they do.

What to do? Allow plenty of time for the package to arrive. 2-3 days priority is not guarnteed and depends on where you package is comming from and going to. What stops are made along the way and how many.

The minute you give them a hard time you might as well forget it. You may think the information they ask for is pointless but just answer the questions and don't try to tell them how to do their job. They don't think they should have to look through every package in the place to find yours. It does not have a red flag that has your name on it. I know, I've had those calls. Packages are in a bin. To find yours means to go through them, while trying to wait on customers at the counter. Should they leave the customer waiting to buy stamps to find YOUR package? Of course not.

What to do? Talk to your letter carrier and ask them to watch out for your package. Ask what time or times does the truck come in? They arrive at different times during the day depending on where you live. Chicks of course are easy to spot as they are very noisey.
Things that affect delivery are, how is it labeled, are there any other markings on the box? I suggest printing all labels and then cover them with clear tape to avoid smears or bleeding ink. Now if you really want to know where you package is pay for tracking if it's available. The extra cost is worth the lack of stress.

Believe me in this economy they are short staffed, sometimes with only one or two clerks in the PO. I worked at one PO where the clerk was there by herself and had to wait til I got there to go to the bathroom. Can they do it to us. Yes they can even with the labor laws we have.

Yes they have jerks like everywhere else.

Now none of this is meant to apply to the OP, just some things to think about. And I will say this. I know that there are those who willl order eggs from afar rather than buy local. I personally have driven 5 and 6 hours to buy the breeds I want. I've posted for Dels on craigs and not had a hit. Same with CM's and these are breeds I've driven to acquire.

There are some USPS employees that I know and respect tremendously. One is the husband of one of my friends and the other is my mother when she used to work there.

I have heard the ins and outs of "The Day of the Life of a Postal Worker." The nightmare customers waiting at their mailboxes for their SS checks and then blaming the driver for it being missing.

I know there are some real crazies out there that they have to deal with. In that aspect, I feel bad for them. On the other hand, my mom had warned me years ago to never label a package as Fragile. It seems that there are postal workers out there that see that as a sign to handle the package as roughly as possible without actually breaking it.

I do like my driver. He's nice and he has taken care of me. I wouldn't blame him for the rough handling of my eggs. The drive on the way out here is what I don't trust. There are many homes that have poor driveways and main streets. Bumpy ride. I have never, ever liked dealing with the main office, though. There is always someone different and no one knows what the other is up to. 9 times out of 10, I get attitude. And I'm the nicest customer you could ever ask for! Even in online transactions! There was an incident years ago that led me to ask for the supervisor. He was just as bad as his employees which I suppose would explain a lot right there.

I know not to give any employee anywhere a tough time. That would be like complaining at a fast food restaurant just so the employees in the back get a chance to spit in your food! I was raised to believe that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

When ever I call to inquire about something the first thing I do is ask for the persons name and note the time. That way if you have to go to a supervisor you can direct them to the right person.
