But just before I go-
Hm... I don't know as much about the Corndel style... And I would like to learn...
Try that and maybe the layer cross! What's the layer cross?

Sincerely,
-K
K, I was asking if I should format the layer cross in the Corndel style ([heritage x commercial cross] x commercial cross) or CobbSasso style (commercial white cross x slow brown cross)

Hello,

Good morning! How are you today?

Ah, okay... Sorry about that! I was a bit tired last night!
Now I got it! Hm... I would format the layer cross in the Corndel style.

Does that sound good? In your opinion, which one suits your needs out of them both...
You use them for meat...Right? Which would be more hardy?

But I use mine for eggs, so what would be more egg-hardy.... The layer cross. Right?
That was my choice though!

Sincerely,
-K

Thanks! I'm doing great!

So the CobbSasso is more of an industrialized attempt to breed a rustic bird to appeal to different markets, crossing a Cobb conventional male to a Sasso rustic brown female. The Corndel is an attempt by a homesteader to breed a bird like the Cornish Cross but better for the homesteader, crossing a Cornish Rock to a Delaware and crossing the offspring to a Cornish Rock. So yes, the Corndel version would be more applicable for us.

So first we'd have to select the Hybrid and heritage breed. The Hybrid would be a Hybrid Leghorn such as hyline, Babcock, Lohmann, etc. Then the heritage would be a white egg laying light breed, efficient heritage layer. I'm not narrowing that so you don't have to deal with finding some exact breed, plenty of birds work. So the cross would be (Hybrid Leghorn x Heritage Light) x Hybrid Leghorn

The Brown egg variant would use.

Glad to hear you are good!

Yes, I see that it is more functional for you to have the Corndel.

Hm... For the hybrid... I would use the Leghorn/babcock.

For the heritage... I would use the Andalausian, preferably blue.
That way even if it was for meat... Before you butcher it you will have a pop of color in the flock! XD

Sincerely,
-K

As for a brown egg laying variant, it would use a red sexlink and heavy breed, as most lay brown eggs. Examples being australorps, RIRs, Plymouth stocks, and Wyandottes. So the cross would be (red sexlink x heritage Heavy) x red sexlink.

I was thinking Andalausians! I edited that post, I accidentally posted while typing.

Would Brahma be a heavy heritage breed you would consider crossing to Red sex link?

I know you love brahmas, they could work, but being heftier, they wouldn't work as well as other options. It still produces a decent layer though!

Yes... I am guilty... I love Brahma's... XD Yes, I agree. They would be great layers...
I understand why you wouldn't use them. Hm... The Andalausian cross might just work!

Sincerely,
-Me Again!!
