The Variety Discussion Thread

Putting a Delaware Rooster on a Cornish Rock and breeding the offspring to a Cornish Rock will create the ideal meat bird for the homesteader, also the first Cornish Rock alternative. Originally made by Timothy Shell and called the Corndel, it was a 25% Delaware 75% Cornish Rock cross made for pastured poultry production.

THANK YOU! Aside from the funny guy you know, I really enjoy the technical side of chickens with all the breeders, Broilers, crosses, breed development, layer traits, weight gain, all kinds of stuff! Check out some of the other threads I'm on. I used to have all kinds of Cross ideas!

My ideas behind making a homestead bird out of heritage breeds and commercial crosses has two approaches. The Corndel style, [heritage x commercial cross] x commercial cross and the CobbSasso style, commercial cross white x slow brown cross

That is real smart, I have all Heritage breeds...
Is Dorking Heritage?Maybe I don't!

I should consider getting a non-heritage for experiments.

I've discovered by knowing the crosses in Freedom Rangers and the index of Hubbard crossing, crossing the Redbro S or M to a Redbro female will result in the offspring being Redbro S or M respectively depending on the breeder female. This cross is used in Freedom Rangers, so when sourcing Hubbard recessive breeders, you can always snatch some Redbros by selecting the pure brown ones. The other ones are Redbro S or M Females x ColorYeild Yellow or Tricolor Males

K, Dorkings are Heritage, infact one of the first if not the first breed.

Wow, I did not know that! Thank you so much for telling...
I have a extreme amount to learn! That is amazing, I have three Dorking mixes.

A Delaware/Dorking, A Delaware/Dorking/Buff Brahma, A Delaware/Dorking/New Hampshire... Now I need a non-heritage!

Sincerely,
-K
