"The Waiting" Support Group

I would wait until they are fully feathered and it's around 70' outside. I have a heated barn so once my ducks turned a week old they went into the brooder in the barn, but the chicks I'm keeping inside for another 4-5 weeks. Good luck with yours!

I just placed my order for 30 chicks from Cackle Hatchery in Lebanon, MO. They will hatch on April 2 and get here by April 4. I ordered a mixed bag of pullets: 5 each of Rhode Island Reds, New Hampshire Reds, Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, and Ameraucanas. Now I just have to build a brooder for 30 chicks to spend their first 4 weeks and another 4-6 weeks to build a place for 30 hens to live and be happy, productive egg layers. Lots of work ahead of me for sure...

Let the waiting game begin.

sorry to hear 2dream, it happens. It sucks but it does happen. Is there a guarantee with your chicks? My new babies are doing pretty good, and the replacements will be here in May.

Good luck Back2basics, hope your weather holds for your chicks.

I ordered from Ideal in January and I thought they were coming Feb 14, but they didn't so I have been waiting and waiting, all to open an email today that says the shipping date was changed from 3/26 to 3/31. The 26th? I was expecting them on March 13th. So I called them and they are having trouble hatching. I asked if I could get another breed and they told me they are sold out of everything?

At least they have nice people that work there.

So the waiting continues..... I have been cleaning, organizing & rearranging like crazy, I feel like I am pregnant again!

Second part of my order arrived today. Yippee
Much better than the first part. I got my EE's and my Blue Silkes. Pics are not that good because I was in a hurry and the brooder needed to get back to temp after me getting them in plus adding food and water.
I only lost one Silkie during shipping and one more is ifffy. We will see how it looks tomorrow. Not bad after Wednesday.

The big brown thing was jealous so I had to take his pic too. Thats Shilo checking out his new charges.

Just five days left and they should be here. We are leaving tommorow to go camping with the horses, so the weekend will fly by. I went to pick up some supplies today. I forgot my new bulbs though, so I'll have to pick them up Monday.

Not much longer

MAY* have some shreds of fingernails left by morning! I was expecting them on Wednesday and when they didn't come in, I called Cackle and they said they had to wait till Wed to ship becasue they didn't have any turkeys on Monday. Ok, would have been nice to get a call! I can guess this is their busiest time now and little orders under 100 can get forgotten. But once I called them, I got good service. The lasy even remembered me from wehen I called to make sure they received my check in the mail. She had told me they would have to delay my order till April if I still wanted the geese, but offered to substitute 2 extra ducks instead.
I need to head for bed, but I know I will wake up every 1/2 hour and look at the clock to see if the Post Office is open yet!

Chick day at my local feed store isn't until May 21st!!!! That's a week later than last year. I know I could order chicks earlier from elsewhere, including the hatchery the feed store uses, but as I still don't have a hen house, brooder, coop, etc, it's probably just as well. Gives my husband a chance to get the things built (and me to tweak the designs). Besides, it's still coooold up here! (21f right now).

And I've never heard of my TSC up here having chicks so I'm just going to have to wait another....11 weeks? ARGH!!!!
