The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I was wondering if anyone that keeps welsummers could help me sex these two chicks. One is a bit lighter than the other but it seems to be feathering quicker, I think I have a possible pullet and a roo. They're about 9 days old. I'm sure I saw somewhere they can be sexed at day olds, but I don't really see much difference.

Pullet left, roo right?

Roo? Based on lighter colour, but feathers are growing quicker.

Pullet? This one is darker, but slower feather growth.

Thanks

just thought id give an update on these two chicks, both were roos. The lighter one developed quicker with the darker showing a couple of weeks later.
Both were thought to be pullets.

Hi KittieChick, for me the side eyeliner is much easier to tell. I took these a couple of weeks ago and gave away the boys, but I have more hatching on Thursday and will get some top pics posted next weekend.

Okay, thank you. The eyeliner makes it obvious, doesn't it? I'm happy about this, as I ordered Welsummers and they're coming straight run. It will be nice to know who is who right at the start. How long do they stay marked differently? Oh, that was dumb. They stay marked until they get adult plumage, right?

I lowered the heat lamp and they stopped chirping as much and are doing better except the delawares keep gettinf poop stuck to their butts. not sure what to do.
sorry to hear of your lost..loosing 2 is a big deal if it wasnt a preditor in my opinion..what happen ..??

i no with it being so cold here i have a couple that have had runny noses..i rub them down with vetrx..stuff works great ..they pepped right up and in a couple days they were fine ..

Hi everyone! I hope I'm not interrupting this convo in a rude way, but I figured this would be the correct thread for a question about this breed.
We currently have a mixed flock of 3 that we are looking to add to. I would like a dark egg layer that lays fairly consistently with good attitude and not too broody.
We live in a residential neighborhood, so no screamers aloud as to not annoy the neighbors. Clucking, egg song, etc is fine but screaming is not. :)

Would the Welsummer fit well for our situation?
We already had to rehome a girl because she couldn't quit yelling at everyone and everything. (yes they get to free range when we are home).
Thanks for any insight.
