I just returned from our county fair. Nice blue ribbon for my Welsummer eggs. Not bad color for hens who have been laying steady since December.

My farm store purchase... I thought it was a sicilian buttercup...
but now I'm thinking a welsummer! I'm hoping it is a welsummer...
anyone care to guess? can you tell if it's a cockerel or pullet?
It's 8 weeks old.

Sorry to say that this is not a welsummer chick. The comb is a dead give away along with the pattering of the bird. Good luck finding out what it is..

Need a shot from the front to see the breast feathers.
Wattles coming in? May take another week or two.

But you do say it's a Welsummer? If it's a pullet, she's bossy. . I will get front shot, and check for wattles. I've thought for a long time it was a pullet. The tail grew quickly. The chest is not black. But the comb seems to be growing now, and hint of red. Plus it's bossy and challenges the other cockerel. Time will tell.

That upright alert stance is making me lean towards cockerel at this point in time. Like aart said, another couple of weeks will tell for sure.
