The Welsummer Thread!!!!

My Welsummer/Buff O cross hen hatched the end of Feb started laying around the first of August.. She
is a little flakey and sometimes forgets that she is supposed to lay in the nesting boxes so I find eggs in the run, under the roosts, but they are well formed and she is pretty dependable.

The egg on the left is a Buff O egg, the one in the middle Welsummer and the one on the right is from my Buff O/Welsummer cross.

I bet your girl is going to start laying any minute. Have you noticed her singing an egg song? Is she squatting if you reach down to pet her?

No song. They are pretty aloof. They kind of do their own thing. Sometimes I worry about them. Everyone else is begging for their meal worms and they aren't close and don't seem that interested. Also is it strange that I have never seen their "brother" mount them or their brood mates (my two leghorns)? He only goes for the older hens and my EE pullets.

My older cockerels from my Feb hatch are starting to take an interest in the pullets from my June hatch. The cockerels from June are not showing any interest in the pullets from their brood but yesterday I saw one of the 14 week old cockerels take off after two of the mature roosters who were after one of the older hens. When they caught her, the youngster pecked them both giving the hen a chance to escape. The porch light is definitely on but he's still trying to figure out his address, LOL.

Does this look like a welsummer? Pullet? I'm new to chickens and this is my mystery chick and people are saying looks like a possible welsummer. Thoughts?
