Female babies have black lines surrounding eyes, black eyeliner, defined v shaped on top of head, dark golden amber chests and their tails feathers develop faster that the males. Males have an undefined marking on head or maybe just a line and chest feathers turn black first on the sides and then totally By six weeks they are already in their changing stage, look ungainly and it becomes harder to differentiate by the head and face.

He does have a lot of black from what I can tell from the picture. Too black or solid black chest of a Welsummer rooster is not ideal for showing and his body is somewhat too square. If he is very young, I would wait awhile to see what he would look like when fully matured.

It is not a fool proof way to ID sex of a Welsummer. I had a few that went "gender bender" on me. Certain bloodlines can give you a better ratio in sexing chicks at hatching.
