Depending on the quality of the pullets, $25 is not bad. I sell culls for $15 if they lay a lighter egg. $20.00 if the hens feather coloring is off, but lays a dark egg. If the hen has the correct color, and dark eggs - Anywhere from $25 and up to $50 per hen.

I only sell culls to backyard city people who use them for eggs. No roosters will be sold with any culls unless they are going for meat.

Nate

In my area, $25 for a purebred welsummer laying hen is a little high but not exhorbitant & I could see paying it for a good hen of laying age. However, $25 for an 8-week-old baby is just highway robbery. Somebody out there in Elverta's hittin the crack pipe a li'l too hard.

Sorry, I went back and re-read my post and this was my point exactly, $25.00 for an 8 week old chick. I should have said that and didn't.

Royce......thanks for the info on the white/yellow legs. I knew that white legs are dominant over yellow legs, but I didn't know how it started in the Welsummer stock. It's definitely something I will be paying attention to when I pick my breeder hens. (My roosters legs are yellow, so I'm good there!)

Sadly, our welsummer Martha is gone. We finally culled her. She has been a very sick chicken for a very long time and got another infection. We put her out of her misery, and she has gone to the Big Free Range In The Sky.

(Our RIR went also... we had them culled, couldn't do it ourselves in the end.)

Sooooooo I'll be wellie shopping in a month or so.

1st off I'm sorry to hear about Martha.
On another note, I'm going to look at some wellies tonight. I asked what bloodline they were and she said she couldn't remember the name but they came from a breeder in Washington. I know this is a dumb question but what bloodline came outta Washington?

I can give you the names of 2 right off the top of my head. Both are also BYC'ers, Royce Van Blaricome (tailfeathers) and Erhard Weihs (Kummerpoultry) chances are this seller just may have purchased birds from one of them.
