For bantams they are a big size, but compared to the LF, they are the typical 1/3 to 1/2 the size. Im in love with my welsummer bantams, and so glad I got the opporutnity to own such rare birds! I dont think the size should be bred down too much on them. ANd being of such recent imports the bantams are bred to the dutch standard, so I am keeping both dutch hens and USA stadard hens in the breeding pen. I do not want to loose what the dutch have done, so my main focus is on their standard. Which it is not too much different than ours.

Thanks that is good to know. How about your LF roos, what is their size like? Most specifically their weight.
I dont know their exact weight. I usually select the biggest ones, with good body. I sold all of my breeding roosters this year, and have 8 youngstock roosters growing out, and I will save 3-5 for breeding, depending on who makes the 2nd culling. I judge them at about 6-8 weeks, and if they make that cut, I overwinter them, let them molt, fill out, etc, before i make any breeding selections. Its too hard to tell which ones are the best when they are younger like that, so I eat the cost of feeding that many over the winter, in the long run it works out. I have over 30 roosters right now, and only about 15 of those will be breeders come spring, butI want to be sure I have the best ones for breeding come spring, so I cull then. Ill have to get weights and pics once my youngsters are all grown up. Maybe i can get some pics this week or weekend. We got busted with snow, its knee high, over 24". Yikes - been shoveling pens and paths all day today.
