It would be Tonk but neither are SQ.

As far as the correct amount of red, you just want to have the bare minimum if your are going to show.

I am not worried about show. My Dutch and Standard Cochins are enough of a pain to deal with as far as show standards. I just figure that if I am going to hatch any I should use the best of the small selection that I have.

Also Honk and Tonk are both staying here. They are good boys with the girls and follow me around like puppies. Later, one will be with Welsummers and Ameraucanas. That one will have 8 girls. The other will get to stay with 25-30 layers as a back up and flock guardian. Being lesser is not necessarily a bad thing.

Yes, Wellies make great guardian roos and as I have learned the hard way you really do want to keep backup roos around. You never know when a flock of hens are going to turn on one. I've lost two young guys this Spring that the hens decided they didn't like (not Wellies, a Marans and a Ameraucana).

PinkChick...

Here is a picture showing a pullet from your stock and a pullet that is a cross between other breeder I got eggs from...

No leg band needed to differentiate between these lines.

Oh, the leg color of the little one isn't anywhere close to that dark, they are actually lighter colored than the big one.

The red ratio on the breast of the roo, you do not want more than 30 percent at the most! Solid black is not correct because some would say it would be like BBR so they wanted the Welsummers to "stand out" from the rest by adding some red.

If you look at Whitmore Farms' Welsummer roo, he has TOO much red and it is a real fault to have that much. I sure hope Will is not using that roo for breeding unless he got pullets that can override the red ratio in lesser degree.

OK folks with the response from this gentleman, here is his email: About the White Welsummers.........................

hi, Robin! im very glad to hear from you! my name is jerry malone i live in greene county tn. i will send you some good pics via your email if you like. i need to get a good camera those were taken by cell phone. these chicks were ordered from a local store here F&M farm supply which ordered from ideal hatcheries in 1998-99 my friend roger vaughn is the breed founder he has kept these since then pure. the original chickens were all welsummer color. in 2006-07 the hens started throwing a white chick every now and then so he kept the white ones and bred them back resulting in whites every time. we are under the impression they are a sport as the white peacook which took many years to happen. i am excited that we are the only 2 people that have these here and we continue to raise them and keep them a pure stock, even if others arent that excited, we are. harsh weather last year and raccoons took a toll on our numbers but we still have about 20 young hens that we are raising from and should have 100 or so this fall. i am only going to sell this lot of eggs to see how interested people would be in owning these rare chicks and will be selling some more when the flock gets large enough to keep up with what i hope a demand for a novelty breed . i would like also info how to claim and name this stock or register for claim if you could help we would deeply appreciate it. sincerely jerry malone

So there you have it! The ball is in your court if you want to buy White Welsummers!
