The other will get to stay with 25-30 layers as a back up and flock guardian. Being lesser is not necessarily a bad thing.

Yes, Wellies make great guardian roos and as I have learned the hard way you really do want to keep backup roos around. You never know when a flock of hens are going to turn on one. I've lost two young guys this Spring that the hens decided they didn't like (not Wellies, a Marans and a Ameraucana).

No leg band needed to differentiate between these lines.
Oh, the leg color of the little one isn't anywhere close to that dark, they are actually lighter colored than the big one.

The red ratio on the breast of the roo, you do not want more than 30 percent at the most! Solid black is not correct because some would say it would be like BBR so they wanted the Welsummers to "stand out" from the rest by adding some red.
If you look at Whitmore Farms' Welsummer roo, he has TOO much red and it is a real fault to have that much. I sure hope Will is not using that roo for breeding unless he got pullets that can override the red ratio in lesser degree.
