Hi Everyone! Hope everyone is doing great!!!!!!


Nova~ Your little chick is a cockerel. His breast is turning black and females breast will turn salmon colored with shafting. Edited to add: Certain lines of Wellies can be sexed at hatch....girls will have "eyeliner" and very distinct "V's" on their heads....boys will not have any eyeliner and they have very smudgy and blurry messy V's. Hope this helps!

I really don't know what more I can tell you except that a 1/1 male/female ratio may not be a great thing. I doubt very much that you're having a fertility problem but I suppose it could be that you've got so many males that they are keeping each other from breeding. I like to have a 1/5 or so ratio.

My peeping egg....stopped. So I think my hatch is not happening, (hovabator/little giant bator!) but set them all in the hatcher tonight since it is lockdown day for the rest of my eggs. Was/am hoping that the 6 wellie eggs hatch

Good thing my girlfriend has a sportsman. Out of the 30 Welsummer eggs I brought there, 9 made it to lockdown, six hatched today and 1 is peeping . So maybe 1 or 2 more there tomorrow.

Here are my 6 so far. 2 are from Alabama "Bantamhen66" and 4 are from Tennessee "Eggs are Good"
I did get a really dark egg from Alabama hatch, but that chick has a sprawling leg, so we will see.

Is it usually to have a blonde one?? Which ones are roos and are there any pullets? They just hatched today and are fluffed and dried and in the brooder now.

And for the blonde chick, no, it is not normal...which breeder did that chick come from? It would be culled out or if it is a pullet, egg layer only. Throwbacks DO occur but we highly recommend you don't breed more Welsummers out of that blonde chick. Even it lays dark eggs, it won't hurt to use her for Olive Egger project if you incline to start up some.
