The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I've eaten some, rehomed some and taken some to the feed store. (lot's of 4H kids that snap up birds for showing - my wellie rooster was gone before I could blink an eye)

Robin,

I am so sorry to hear about your hen. I wish there was something I can do to help.

It is much easier to get chicks, and faster too.

Perfect, more Calicowoods lines!

Good news that I got a hold of the friend that I gave away those four cockerals and she would let me have one back in October!

It would be the full brother to the one I had. Yes he is from Nate's stock.

Well I had to share my good news. I candled my eggs from Faykokowv. Early on I had a seeper, but I have 6 that are growing great! The other 5 I don't think are doing anything but since they are not seeping or smelling, I left em in there. I am so excited!!!

did you happen to candle the seeper before it started seeping. I like to follow up on stuff like that - was the shell thin or do you think there was a hairline crack I had missed
What are you using to candle?? I have a heck of a time seeing through those eggs. Not bad for eggs from the egg chain lol

If it is not too bad, I would wax the crack good and see how it develops from then on!

Sometimes I do have an easy time with candling eggs while I can not candle at all, depends on the darkness and thickness of the shells.

I did candle it. But I did not write down if it was a crack or what. For some reason I am thinking it also had blood ring. The one that had the crack (that I told you about in a PM when I got them, the one that looked like a pip) is wax covered and I think it is one of the growing ones.

What I have been candling them with is this Rayovac flashlight. I keep stealing it from my husband to use. With it I was able to candle blue eggs and it looked like they were white eggs.

I am soooooo not complaining! I was so thrilled when I saw them on the swap thread I was shaking when I was typing "mine."

I still am that thrilled, and I do plan on contacting you for more in the future!!!

I have used wax several times, with good results. In fact I have a crayon and matches in my incubation kit.

Oh their eggs are so wonderful!!! I am telling you I was shocked by how dark they are. Absolutely lovely. If I did not have that super duper flashlight, there would be no way I could see through them.
