The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I do not know of Duane or where he got his Wellies from. I have no idea what his birds look like. I do know that he showed his wide range of poultry breeds but uncertain if he did show his Wellies in the "Nationals".

I now understand what kind of spots Valpaca is going for. Some of my eggs have the tiny overspray spots. I'm with Royce though, I'd prefer the dark reddish brown without spots - the key for me is the red tint with a dark color.

PS: does anyone else have a problem with this site running slow as molasses!! I can hardly stand to come read the threads it takes them sooooo long to load for me.

Yes, I do. It seems to take forever for pages on BYC to load for me. I was thinking maybe it was my computer or something because I recently switched over from satellite internet to Frontier broadband. Supposed to be faster and I think it usually is but I've noticed that BYC always seems to be slow. Plus I've had it freeze up a number of times on me - and that is a REAL PAIN when it happens after a long, detailed post!

God Bless,

All arrived in perfect shape and packaged great! Thank you Kelly!

They are all nestled away in the 'bator with 43 Marans eggs and 28 Barnevelder eggs.

I'm with you Fay - I don't mind small speckles, but the red tint dark color is what I'm going for.

I'm getting so excited......getting ready for eggs from Happy Chooks. Can't wait to have a rooster again!!!!!!!!

Rsquared~ Hey do you still have birds from me? Can't remember if you have Wellies or Marans? Sorry feeble mind syndrome.

Vanalpaca~ Lovely Eggs!!!

Good morning Wellie lovers,

Pinks...only have marans from you :))

Thanks for the info Vana

HappyChooks, received the info...thank you

I never had any issues of BYC being slow...I have IE. Maybe updating your Adobe Flash, and everything you added on your computer programs.

I put up with the slowness for a while but I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics from Photo.....pain in the butt LOL!

I love speckless eggs, and the rich red tint clay color. Cut a hole enough to insert a small violet, voila, beautiful masterpiece!

So am I getting this right, that none of my super dark eggs qualify to you guys as being

"dark red tint"

as even the darkest ones ARE teeny tiny spots.

They are not shells of poured dark red tinted clay, but terra cotta flowerpot with an overlay of the reddish brown pigment.

Is there something wrong with the Whitmore, Grisham, Calicowoods, and Lowell Barber lines that are pure/known that my eggs aren't 'PAINTED SOLID RED" like you all are describing?

Really sounds more like a Marans trait than a Welsummer trait???

Please refer to my photo in the thread above.

Thanks. And I'd like to see a photo of these eggs you are describing, hopefully up close and under bright incubator lighting. I can see that they are SPOTS better once they are in that brighter lighting.
