Took a closer look at the Nate Vanwey Wellies and they are looking mighty FINE! Chest feathers are popping in and I see all but one possible cockeral.

Now if that little boy can keep quiet during the summer months, he might just get lucky for the fall and winter months! If not, I've got someone who would want him for their flock!

My girls are not yet 2 years old, and their legs look bleached out already. I know Wellie legs should be yellow and they were last year, but I'm very disappointed at how light they seem to be now. Should I be concerned that they are near the end of their laying cycle already? I thought I'd have a few more years...

Would they be getting ready to molt? We have 4 that are in various stages of molt and 2 look like a lawn mower went over them.

I'd check for mites as well, that can make them look lighter if they have scales

Mine get bleachy yellow when they are laying or under molt or stress. During the winter months, getting fat and sassy, they would return to dull yellow. However the roo should maintain their YELLOW legs at all times unless he was stressed out or bad nutrition or mites.

I checked for mites, and they are clean; they are not moulting, they've just recently started laying again after a months' long moult. Stressed? I don't know whay they would be...nothing has changed, they aren't crowded... *shrugs

I have LF welsummers. I need information about the silver duckwing chicks- pictures would be fantastic. I've seen pictures of adults but no chicks. The reason why-I've just had some chicks hatch yesterday. I have a welsummer chick to hatch that doesn't look like the others. It has a silver looking body were the others are the normal tan/light brown color. Could a silver pop up out of the average partridge coloring? The only info on S. DWs I can find is in the banties and my flock is large fowl and not mixed.

Please help! I'll post a pic of the "odd" chick with a sibling a little later.

Where did you get your chicks from?

Silver Duckwings are being worked on by a few breeders here in the US. The color pattern is very similar to the Silver Duckwing OE chicks.

There has been some cases people hatching out Welsummer eggs from one or two breeders (past posts revealed the differences) and they had to cull it out. If the parents and the background are pure breeders (non hatchery type) stock, it should be culled out or put in the egg laying flock or give it to someone who would appreciate a pretty roo for their flock of hens. Please do submit a picture of the Silver Duckwing chick...I am wanting to add it on the WCNA website.

Erhard Wiehs is working on the Duckwing (both in Gold and Silver) patterns in his Welsummers. So if you get your eggs/chicks from him, there is your answer. Even it is not accepted in this country but they are the true Duckwings that has not been crossed over by another breed to get the color effect. I know he is working on it and you should continue to work on it as well.
