The Welsummer Thread!!!!

How long have they been laying? My pullet that has been laying a couple weeks lays about a medium size egg; the 3 year old hen lays a jumbo extra large

My 10 month old Welsummer lays a measly sm/med egg and has been laying for 5 months!

Mine lay nice BIG eggs, I would say large sized.

My Welsummers are only hatchery birds, but one lays medium, one large, and one extra-large. The biggest egg is very dark and speckled.

Does anyone know where I can order Welsummer chicks (breeder, not hatchery)? I found someone selling eggs but since we are just starting out I don't know if I want to tackle the hatching process just yet. I've been all over this site for the past couple weeks researching coops, runs, brooders and breeds. I've decided on Welsummers but am having a hard time getting any further than that. I'm in Minnesota if that makes any difference, but after searching around I'm thinking I'll end up having to have them shipped.
Any help at all would be appreciated, via PM or the thread.

All three are laying med very nicely colored and speckled eggs but they are 10-11 months old from breeder stock. I was assured they came from x-large egg stock but were mostly bred for exhibition not egg production so I'm hoping they get over the pullet eggs soon.

You can check here for breeders near you. Many breeders ship eggs as well.

Thanks bwalden for the quick reply. At least I know I'm not alone out there and my little hen isn't such a total aberration. I purchased my chicks through the mail...did you too?
I spent about two years traveling in and out and through Eureka Springs, AR 5 years ago...are you near there?
