I have a Welsummer. So my silkie went broody and just hatched all 6 eggs we gave her two days ago. Yesterday my welsummer went into the nest box and won't come out! I looked it up and the comments were that Welsummers seldom go broody. What is your opinion? Do you guys have broody Welsummers? When I try to move her she growls at me. If she is broody, I have some eggs to give her, but not the ones she is sitting on. (They are not fertile). Comments please. Thanks.

Funny, mine just went broody again for the second time. Ordered some fertile hatching eggs to slip under her. I've been told that 6 to 8 is the usual ideal number of eggs, and I ordered 10 expecting some damage in shipping. They sent 14, with one damaged by myself when unwrapping. My Wellie is happy as can be covering all 13 eggs!

They do seldom go broody but it does happen. I've had one so far this year. None last year or the year before. She's done well. She hatched 10/10 eggs and is a great little mother.

From what I know about sex link, no. Black sex link requires a Barred Rock hen, Red sex link requires a RIR or NHR roo.

I have some black sex linked eggs under my broody Wellie right no, one cross from a Lavender EE roo over a Barred Rock EE hen, the other is a BCM roo over a Barred Rock hen. Both crosses will be mutts, like all sex linked chickens.
With a BCM over a Cream Legbar, you'd have a regular old Easter Egger, nothing wrong with that, as EEs are my all time favorite, maybe even an Olive Egger...

not all sex linked chickens are mutts - Cream Legbars are actually sex-linked - I think this question would be better posed on the cream legbar thread though

Oh yes, I stand corrected. I believe we were speaking of sex linked crosses. Thank you for clarifying. I would actually love to get my hands on a pair of Cream Legbars. But alas, roos are not allowed in my city, so no happy chicken breeding for me.
