The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I have bantam silvers and the eyeliner trick does not apply, neither does assessing the V on the top of the head. I have noticed that the females are lighter at hatch. This probably would not apply to standard color bantam Wellies

I got Welsummer bantams but down to one right now. Yes, the eyeliner and V on head still applies to the bantams. But it is not 100 fool proof nor 100 percent reliable. There has been incidents that eyeliners occurred on roosters and vice versa.

The bantam Wellies are pretty! But they won't lay the same color as the LF cousins.

Yup. These two eggs are from a pullet. She laid 2 pullet sized eggs, then supersized them. They are more blue than they look in the picture.

Congrats she's a beauty! Notice I said "she" you've got a pullet. My pullets look just like that with the dark well defined V atop the head and eyeliner around the eyes. Thanks for sharing!

YEP I AM AWARE OF THAT..I LIKE THE LOOK OLD WORLD LOOK THAT IS,,I HAVE SOME CUCKOO MARANS BANTAMS AND WELSUMMER BANTAMS IN THE BATOR. HAVE SOME BCFM IN THE HATCHER AS WE SPEAK...LOOKS LIKE THURSDAY IS THE BIG DAY.....THOSE WELI BANTAM EGG SIZE WERE FAIRLY LARGE..I WAS SUPPRISE

At what age should I know for sure if my Welsummer chick is a male or female? It's about 3 weeks or so now think. It's comb is what is worrying me, but the chest feathers that are starting to come in have no black in them. Sorry I can't post pictures. I bought it straight run. I had two to choose from, and I picked the one that had the darkest V and eyeliner.
