Has anyone purchased welsummer chicks from ideal poultry, and if so do y'all have pics of birds and eggs, I bought some two weeks ago, and have been satisfied with birds from there in the past. I know that they aren't breeding to the standard, but are the eggs dark brown? My plan is to start breeding them next spring for pure breeds, and also to help my olive eggers color. Thanks, Jared

Welsummer females have very well defined "eyeliner" and a well defined triangle on the top of their heads. Males have blurry eyeliner, and the triangle on their heads are also not well defined

While I greatly admire the scenic beauty and the apparent health of the bird, this hen/pullet is not my idea of a good Welsummer. The two issues I have with the bird are: 1) cushion where the sweep from the back should start the tail; 2) much to coarse stippling/peppering in the parts where this is required (looks almost laced), which I think is a serious fault. It is a bit difficult to determine from these otherwise wonderful pictures, but I suspect she also carries her tail too low for the APA SOP. Just my two cents' worth, which doesn't amount to much.

I would imagine that the price varies in England like it does here in the US.

Yahoo. Just scored a flock German utility wellsummers. I guess they need a lot of work on egg size but that's the easiest trait to improve on.
I am getting the flock flown here from BC. This line is direct from germany. T minus 6 days until their arrival!

I have been wanting wellsummers for a while. My mentor offered these to me so long as I payed freight. The are already laying. So I will start hatching in January this year. Get my numbers up to 100 potential hens select the ones that start laying the earliest (thinking some trap nesting might be in order) and from that group start culling using a ruler... The wider & deeper the better!
