Yeah! First welsummer egg! Only been waiting around thirty weeks! I thought she was waiting for spring, it's been averaging 10F degrees sometimes below zero F.

Not as dark or spotted as I was hoping, but it's her first and bigger than my brown leghorns and eegrs.

i showed these eggs on the ny thread as well but since its a wellie egg i thought i'd post it here too ..

its a blue spotted egg ..i'ver never seen this before ..i started using red granit grit and upped the protein in their diet with scrambled eggs ..but cant figure out why it would have blue to purplish looking spots ..

not as dark as you wanted but atleast shes started the ball or egg rolling ..lol nice size egg to for a first egg..i bet they darken up with time ..i no i have some that seem to lay speckled one day and a real clean egg the next ..i read somewere also you can help with darkness of the shell by doing something in their diet...

That is so cool! I wish I could get a blue egg with brown spots!

I was a little worried, my first wellie egg had spots, and then the next few none and lighter brown. Then I she laid a couple nice darker eggs with nice spots! Guess she isn't going to let me down after all. Soon I'll try hatching some out. The last one is in the bottom right corner. Woohoo!

Oh my goodness, they are so cute!!! I got mine as 9 weeks old so they were in the homely stage..
They sure do go through an ugly duckling stage, don't they?

These are hatchery chicks I got at our local Ace Hardware. They've turned into a great chicken resource. I've got 15 on order from Whitmore Farm to arrive sometime in March and April.

I can't wait to see how they all turnout!

nice looking chickies there ..you no when you get your next batch of birds you have to keep them apart till they are all the same size ..or the bigger ones will get after the babys and kill them ..i am not trying to scare you, just giving you a heads up ..

from what i can tell they both look like girls ..but i cant see the other ones very well ..

congrats on your new babys..good luck ..
