The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Aart mine arn't perfect either but I think both of ours are darn close. Some of my eggs are not the best and some are purty.

That's hers, the brown ones, the one to the right was real dark.

some of mine are lighter in color then others and some are speckled better then others ..but i am happy with them ..the shell breaks nice when cooking them ..my wyandottes egg shell shatter and the membrain stays intact..which makes sunny side up or over easy a bit hard when the shell cuts the yoke open when cracking ..lol..wow that was a mouthful..lol

sorry no new pics of eggs ..the one with the blue speckles i think is caused by the new granit grit ..shes the only one laying those tho ..

I was under the impression that they always laid the same color and spots. Some of mine have been really dark, some light, some with speckles and some with dark splotches, cool though anyway.

In your experience with this breed, do you feel there is any validity to the belief that the tail of female chicks will appear and grow faster than males? Or the similar belief about wings growing faster? I'm new to this breed and have just one Wellie chick in with some Sussex. At only 7 days its wings almost touch its tail! The tail is well developed and seems to be set at about a 45 degree angle. The sussex are much less developed. Obviously different breeds develop differently, but this is what I'm observing.

Thanks for your input!

Welsumer are auto sexing, you should be able to tell males from females at hatch but their color patterns. Some lines are easier to ID than others tho.

If you post a pic of the chick in question, me or someone else may be able to ID...tho most the serious breeders appear to be gone from this thread.
