The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Does anyone know how to choose the best welsummers hen for 4h shows? We have ten, three week olds, and their appearances are already very different. Some much larger, some more golden, other dark brown. Some have little white spots, others don't. If anyone knows about show birds, please reply!

Would depend on the judges at your 4H event......in some areas the competition and judging standards are pretty lax.
When is the show?
Where did you get your Wellies?
Can you post pics of them?...tho 3 weeks is pretty early to make any determinations.

The shows will be local Kansas 4h shows, and the county fair, and hopefully the state fair. I had them shipped from McMurray Hatchery. I will take new pics of each. One rooster in particular is very different from the others. He was all creamy buff colored as a hatchling. He lacked color or markings on his head and back. Now is new feathers are shiny gold compared to the others brown. All the pullets are different too. I will try to get pictures yet tonight...

This is one pullet in question. She has some white stuff going on that the others don't. She's also one of the biggest.

Then there's lighter, vs darker. Does chick color predict adult color in any way? Is one more desired than the other?

This is my light colored roo. He's really pretty golden in person. He didn't match any of the other chicks when he arrived. The others were dark. Is this a good thing, or a bad thing? Will he be a handsome rooster?
