The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Ha! We have a cat named Johnny Cash. He is a solid black half Siamese. His full name is Johnny Cash, the cat in black.

Welcome to all the newcomers! Glad you could join us!

Is she a free ranger?
If so, that's where your eggs are...cause vent and pin bones shows she is laying.

Right?!?!
They do have limited free ranging in our back yard, but it's a small yard with no low bushes or real places to hide eggs, plus they aren't out every day, and the days they are out, it's usually not till afternoon. Even so, we've combed the yard pretty thoroughly, so I really doubt they're out there.

Awww, he does look sweet! I don't have a welummer boy, but I want one soo bad.

The kids played with him outside today! He's the best little cockerel ever. He loves the kids and follows them around. I do wish he was a little more afraid of the cats, but he is only 9 weeks old. Surely he will learn more fears.. hopefully he never turns mean on us though!

Yeah I'm a big cash fan and western as well.

My bcmXgame is Popeye 2yr old (had one eye close when I got him from my wife's dad)

Wellie is Johnny cash at 5.5months (He's a quite roo but takes no crap from the other Roos stands his ground, it just fit him well.)

Jubilee orp is Billy the kid at 5.5 months (Orps are slow to mature, but he's quick and the most alert.)

CL is Doc Holliday 6.5months ( He had a slight sneeze and bam the name just stuck)

So cute!! I am sure it will just take one tiny swipe from the cat and he will never go near it again. Thank goodness, my cat leaves chickens alone, even as day old chicks. It is my dogs that i have to worry about....

My Welsummers did not start laying until about 27 weeks, and I am still waiting on one to start at 35.:he

My freeloading Welsummer crosses are 27 weeks. The other night I saw them sitting in the boxes but no eggs that I can contribute to them. I need to search their yard this afternoon. There isn't really any place to hide eggs. Plus I think if the eggs sit out over night the opossum and raccoons would find them. There is very little chicken food left on the ground in the morning...time to set up the traps again!!!

Now here is weird thing...one of the Wellie crosses has red ear lobes and the other has white!! Was thinking they we Wyandotte mixes so that white ears shouldn't happen right?!

Wellie chicks are often confused with brown leghorn chicks, which have white earlobes.
Where didyou get the chicks?
