Well it is official. I am Welsummer-less. A nice family called and came by to pick them up. Sounds like they will enjoy the eggs and have kids who will enjoy the Roosters. I will miss Walle since he was so sweet. So I quickly went out and moved my Sussex to their coop. LOLOL Boy was my SS roo confused!

Oh, boy we have one mini and one pony to foal out this year. I had a mini in training last year that surprised us with a foal. We knew she was bred, but she didn't develop any milk or bag until after baby dropped. So cute to find on a early February morning. Hope our mini spits one out that easily.

I have a mixed flock with one amazing welsummer. I found two mystery eggs in the last 2 days. Mystery because they were not in the nesting boxes and the girls that are currently laying use the box. Wilma has not laid anything yet but is very bright red and ready to lay.

At first it was my cuckoo maran, but she lays in the box but when I washed off the poo on the egg some of the color came off

So does that mean my Wilma is laying these? if so YIPPEE!

My flock of Welsummer's from Whitmore farm just started laying. The eggs are nice and dark and they lay them in my garage, practically at the back door.

I'll have to get pics of the birds. By Spring I hope to have them in breeder pens but right now they have the run of the farm like everyone else.

Gosh, now that you all are posting pics of your eggs, it's making me want mine to grow up even faster! I want some of those pretty eggs too! (not that my other hens don't lay pretty eggs, but I love the dark ones)

I love my welsummer, Lucy. She is only about 11 weeks, so I don't know how she will lay, but she is so calm and laid back, causes no trouble and always seems to be left out of any tiffs among the others. She is the first to start roosting; today it seems the others have started following her example. She is my favorite.

took me 2 days, but i made my way through the 27 pages!

fyi, by eyeliner and topmarking, mine looked like half males, but turned out to all be pullets.

Part 3 staggered hatch is over...2 new little babies in the hatcher this morning out of 4 eggs. I didn't think any of these eggs were going to do anything. Surprise! 1 girl and 1 boy.
I broke open the other 2 eggs and it appears that they may have quit just before lockdown. 9 new girls so far to grow out......woowhooo!
Crossing my fingers for the 4 eggs in the 'bator set for hatch on the 19th.....I'll be in chicken heaven if all 4 hatched out and all ended up being girls.

Welcome Lesterlu! Very glad to hear that you love your Wellies, there's just something about them!
