The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Our welsummers quit laying in mid December and don't lay well again till mid February. We have a few that will lay but to me 1 or 2 eggs a day out of 20+ welsummer hens is not worth counting. They are in a heated coop with lights. I guess our girls just feel they deserve a vacation from laying...so they take it!

My silly Wellie cockerel Jax decided to show off some tricks to attract some Wellie girl attention:

"Standing on one leg is much more creative than the wing dance"

"How long do I have to hold this pose before they are falling at my feet?"

Take a bow, Jax.

The girls were not impressed.
"That goof is at it again."

Yes, the pictures are very appreciated...especially for those of us that don't yet HAVE any Welsummers! They are so on my wishlist. I love those terracotta colored eggs! and the birds are beautiful too!

As Lensters said "a really bright light". Welsummer eggs can be surprisingly easier to see through than a Marans egg.

I ordered my welsummers from Meyers along with buckeyes, buff orps and comets. I order 6 pullets and 2 cockerels and got 7 pullets and 1 cockerel, which I was good with that. But I lost the cockerel at about 6mo. and don't have a clue what happen to him, Just find him on the pen floor. Very happy with the pullets though, they been laying for about 2mos. now and eggs are awesome the wife and love them. On buckeyes I ordered the same 6 and 2 and then Meyers called and said they had problems with the buckeyes. So they sent me 15 st. run and it work out 8 pullets and 7 cockerels. Meyers was nice to talk to and helpful.
